WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is gearing up for one final fight—and he’s making it personal. The wrestling icon will step into the ring for his retirement match this Saturday at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, challenging GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship in what promises to be a clash of generations. But this isn’t just about titles or legacy—it’s about respect.
Goldberg: “It could have happened to anybody…”
In a recent interview with 11Alive promoting the event in Atlanta, Georgia, Goldberg didn’t hold back when discussing why he chose GUNTHER as his final opponent. According to him, the Austrian powerhouse earned that spot by crossing a line no one should.
“Well, as I said the other night on the show, I was vying for my retirement match and he just so happened to put himself in that spot,” Goldberg stated. “It could have happened to anybody that opened their mouth negatively about me and my family when we were there, back for the pay-per-view (Bad Blood). So I don’t know whether it was planned by him. I don’t know. All I can say is he willingly stepped right into that spot, and I willingly accepted him as my final opponent.”
Goldberg made it clear that his farewell isn’t just a celebration of a storied career—it’s a message to the new generation of WWE Superstars.
“Younger generation, man, look up to your elders, respect them because you never know what can happen.”
The feud that turned personal
Tensions first ignited at the Bad Blood premium live event, when GUNTHER took a verbal shot at Goldberg and his family. That moment lit the fuse for what has become an intense, emotionally charged feud.
The conflict escalated on the most recent episode of WWE Raw, where Goldberg stormed into the ring and floored GUNTHER with a devastating punch, sending a message that he’s not going quietly into retirement. The confrontation added fuel to an already explosive match that fans are calling a must-see.
A stacked card for Saturday night’s main event
Goldberg’s retirement showdown is just one of the highlights on a loaded Saturday Night’s Main Event card airing live on NBC. The night also features a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women’s Championship, where Bayley defends her title against Naomi and Tiffany Stratton.
In another marquee matchup, Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena will team up with LA Knight to battle The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga in tag team action.
But all eyes will be on Goldberg as he steps into the squared circle one last time, not just to fight for gold—but for honor.
