In 2025, John Cena retired from WWE as he faced defeat against Gunther in Washington. The Audience slammed the match's ending and wanted to see The Franchise Player end his run at WrestleMania 42 instead of Saturday Night's Main Event.

Recently, a graphic displayed during the Royal Rumble kickoff, which featured John Cena. Many Fans expected that The Cenation leader would be a surprise entrant in the gimmick match based on the graphic. Although Cena himself tweeted and dropped an update.

The Men's Grand Slam Champion tweeted on X hyping the Royal Rumble event from Saudi Arabia. The 48-year-old icon confirmed his status for the event when he revealed that he will be watching the show. The Cenation Leader stands true to his words on retirement from the industry.

John Cena's former rival AJ Styles could take retirement at WWE Royal Rumble 2026

Following John Cena's retirement from the sport after his fight with Gunther, The Ring General took a shot at WWE RAW, and the two had a fight on Monday Night RAW. The two-time World Heavyweight champion tricked The Phenomenal One to secure a win.

Later, Styles asked for a rematch, but the 38-year-old legend wanted the two-time WWE Champion's career on the line. After a moment of hesitation, The Phenomenal One agreed and put his career on the stake. If AJ Styles loses, he will be forced to take retirement from the sport.

If Gunther secures a win, it will mark his third in a retirement-based match in the Stamford-based promotion as a performer.
