Aaron Glenn refuses to confirm if Justin Fields will remain QB1 after the bye week.

Despite a strong showing, Fields’ future as the Jets’ starter remains uncertain.

New York Jets may have secured a much-needed win before their bye week, but uncertainty continues to loom large around their quarterback situation. Head coach Aaron Glenn added fuel to the speculation after dodging questions about whether Justin Fields will remain the team’s starting quarterback when they face the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.

Aaron Glenn keeps quarterback decision under wraps

During his media appearance, Glenn was asked directly if Fields would retain his QB1 role after the break. Rather than providing a clear answer, the Jets’ coach chose to keep things vague.

“Well, Coz [Brian Costello of the New York Post], I think you know what my answer is going to be on that. This is the bye week, and we are going to focus on us,” Glenn said with a smile. “Listen, I have time to make that decision. That is one of the good things [about] the bye week.”

His response, while lighthearted, did little to clarify the Jets’ quarterback plans moving forward. Aaron Glenn emphasized that the team would spend the bye week reassessing their performance and identifying areas for improvement before making any lineup commitments.

“But seriously, this really gives us a chance to hone in on the good, bad, and the ugly and try to get those things worked out. We know we have a ways to go,” he added.

Fields’ strong performance still not enough to guarantee spot

Justin Fields’ recent outing was one of his most composed performances since joining the Jets. He showed poise, efficiency, and command over the offense — a welcome sign for a team that has struggled for consistency under center this season.

Despite that, Glenn’s reluctance to name him the starter has sparked fresh debate about whether the Jets might consider other options post-bye week. ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted on social media that,

“Aaron Glenn was very pleased with the way Justin Fields managed yesterday’s game, but he declined to commit to Fields as his starter. So Fields, despite playing one of the best games of his career, remains in limbo (at least publicly).”

The coach’s evasiveness could be a strategic move to keep competition alive within the roster or simply an attempt to keep Cleveland guessing. Either way, the uncertainty surrounding the Jets’ QB situation continues to dominate headlines as the team looks to build momentum in the second half of the season.

A calculated silence or brewing QB controversy?

Glenn’s decision to remain noncommittal may signal that internal evaluations are ongoing, but it also risks unsettling a player who finally appears to be finding rhythm. With the Browns’ defense looming as one of the toughest in the league, the Jets will need stability under center — something Aaron Glenn must soon decide on.
