Former NFL linebacker and head coach of Fort Bend Bush High School, Allen Aldridge passed away at the age of 52. Aldridge aged 52 played eight seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions. He is a 1990 graduate of Willowridge High School, he was a standout player at the University of Houston in the early 90s before being taken in the fourth round by Denver in the 1994 NFL Draft. He prolonged his career by playing four seasons with the Broncos where he won a Super Bowl title in 1998. After his time with the team, he went on to play four seasons in Detroit, scoring over 200 tackles. After his illustrious career as an NFL player, he made a smooth transition into coaching.
For the past 20 years, he was at Fort Bend Bush in East Houston, initially serving as an assistant coach before becoming the head coach for the last 15 years. Aldridge was a key figure in the local football coaching scene and was nominated as the Houston Texans High School Coach of the Week in 2022. His influence was widespread with several players crediting his coaching for their rise.
“My father was a coach, my mother is a retired teacher, my sister is a teacher … I have a family full of educators. Hard work and dedication will take you far in life. ‘Class and Character’ was my school motto at Willowridge High School, and I carried that with me my entire life. I always wanted to coach High School football," he said during his nomination.
According to Berman, as per Aldridge's mother, an autopsy confirming the cause of his sudden death will be done. Fort Bend ISD is yet to comment on the passing. The news was first reported by Dave Campbell's Texas Football.
