Green Bay Packers may be without a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but that hasn’t stopped speculation around a potential impact addition at wide receiver. With strategic drafting now more crucial than ever, a surprising name has emerged as a strong fit for Green Bay’s offensive future.
No first-round pick, but plenty at stake
Green Bay’s absence from the first round stems from last offseason’s blockbuster move to acquire Micah Parsons—a trade widely seen as a win for the franchise. However, it leaves general manager Brian Gutekunst navigating a more complex draft strategy.
Holding the No. 52 overall pick in the second round, the Packers must maximize value in the middle rounds to address key roster gaps, particularly at wide receiver.
Sleeper pick gains attention
According to longtime team reporter Bill Huber, Green Bay could wait until the fifth round to target a wide receiver. In his latest mock draft, he projects Green Bay Packers selecting Cincinnati standout Jeff Caldwell at No. 153 overall.
Huber highlighted Caldwell’s rare physical profile, writing, “Caldwell is one of the freakiest receiver prospects. At 6-foot-5 3/8 and 216 pounds, he ran his 40 in 4.31 seconds.”
Jeff Caldwell’s confidence stands out
Caldwell’s on-field traits are matched by his mindset. Speaking in an interview shared by Huber, the wide receiver emphasized the mentality required to succeed at the position.
“You need to have that mentality as a receiver. I want to score,” Caldwell said. “I’m the best player on this field. It doesn’t have to be cocky. You need to have that mindset at receiver. At both Cincinnati and Lindenwood, I had to find that mentality.”
A potential boost for Jordan Love
Adding a receiver with Caldwell’s size and speed could significantly enhance Green Bay Packers’ offense, especially for quarterback Jordan Love. With a four-year college career producing 124 receptions, 2,229 yards, and 28 touchdowns, Jeff Caldwell brings both production and upside.
While not a headline-grabbing first-round move, this projected pick reflects a calculated approach by Green Bay—one that could quietly reshape their offensive identity heading into the future.
