Patrick Mahomes helps Chiefs again with another contract restructure; a look at his updated NFL salary cap
The Chiefs have restructured Mahomes' contract, converting portions of his 2026 salary into bonuses to free up $43.56 million in salary cap space, reducing his cap hit from $78.2 million to $34.65 million.
This bonus is prorated over the remaining years of his deal, through 2031 or 2032, depending on void years and structure. Hence, the NFL superstar’s 2026 cap hit drops dramatically from $78.2 million (pre-restructure) to $34.65 million, or precisely $34,653,888, according to OverTheCap data.
The quarterback has consistently shown a willingness to restructure for team flexibility, helping Kansas City maintain competitiveness despite roster challenges after missing the playoffs in 2025.
