Deshaun Watson has been proved to be a massive disappointment for the Cleveland Browns since the time he was acquired via a trade with the Houston Texans. He has been struggling for form and hasn't been able to find his touch in the last two years. His other attempt at regaining his form was cut short after he suffered a horrific Achilles injury in the Week 7 clash against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Browns must now quickly find a solution to replace their injured quarterback Watson, whom they gave a six-year contract worth a whopping $230,000,000. They have the likes of Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jameis Winston in their ranks but they need to seek outside help. Here are the five players who the Browns can replace Watson with.
The five players who can replace injured Deshaun Watson
Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco can be one of the options as he replaced an injured Deshaun Watson last year and led the Cleveland Browns to the National Football League (NFL) playoffs. Despite his impressive performances as a fill-in, the franchise opted not to resign Flacco in the offseason.
He is currently playing with the Indianapolis Colts and it would be fitting for the Browns to go for him as he has experience on his side.
Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill has had a mixed run of performances as a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans and led the team to the playoffs three out of four times. He is a free agent this season and thus it makes it easy for the Cleveland Browns to secure his services without shedding anything away from their pockets.
Justin Fields
Justin Fields sees himself in a rather not-so-good position as he is being benched in favour of Russell Wilson, despite the Pittsburgh Steelers getting off to a strong start to the ongoing season.
He has proven in the past that he can win matches and would add a rushing element to Brown's quarterback position if the franchise goes ahead with signing him. It won't be a big hassle to sign Fields now that the Steelers are going with Wilson.
Jimmy Garoppolo
If judged by his career then Jimmy Garoppolo can be viewed as one of the best overall backup quarterbacks the league has seen. He made an appearance in the Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers but now sees himself as a backup to Matthew Stafford while playing for the LA Rams.
He can potentially replace Watson the same way Flacco did last year.
Jacoby Brissett
Jacoby Brissett knows how the franchise Cleveland Browns works as he was a part of the team back in 2022. He now plays for the New England Patriots but recently, he lost his spot to Drake Maye.
It will be easy for the Browns to get him back as he won't cost a dime in a trade situation.
