New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is going through a wonderful season in his second year with the team. Maye received a special gift from the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
In a video clip posted by the Patriots on X (formerly known as Twitter), Maye uncovered an exclusive Gold City edition jersey from the Celtics with his name on the back.
"Man, How about this?" Maye said with excitement. "That's pretty sick right there. This is sweet, I'm gonna keep this."
Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez also got a special edition jersey with his name and number.
The Patriots made it seven back-to-back wins after a 28-23 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. They will aim for an eight consecutive win when they face a weak New York Jets on Thursday.
With a short turnaround between the two games, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel offered an indoor practice session on Tuesday. However, New England players turned down the offer, per Maye.
"I think it’s to not take shortcuts," Maye said. "It’s to not let little things lack or slack. I think the biggest thing is to stay with what we’ve been doing. Try to keep the same mentality.
"(Vrabel) asked us to go inside and we wanted to go outside. Just trying to not let the little things go and know that these will matter and have mattered for us in the past and will show up again."
Drake Maye proud of the Patriots' team
After the win over the Buccaneers on Sunday, Drake Maye felt proud of the Patriots' team. In his postgame press conference, the quarterback expressed his feelings about how the side fought to clinch the victory against a tough opponent.
“I'm just so proud of this team,” Maye said. “Just every week we're fighting. Some things aren't going our way. We're handling adversity, battling adversity. Defense is stepping up. What a complete game. That's what we said all week: throw up for 60 minutes.
“It was a good football team. We knew if we got up, they were gonna come back and they came marching back. And I was proud of the guys for standing up, especially our defense, the big stop and man, just proud of this team.”
The performance against the Buccaneers elevated Maye to the betting favorite to win the NFL MVP.
