Tom Brady has spoken on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ form, which sounds alarming ahead of the team entering its Week 2 of the NFL season. The six-time Super Bowl champion highlighted how it has been challenging for the Chiefs to find a left tackle. He also noted the importance of a stable offensive line in the success of a quarterback.
Tom Brady’s warning on Mahomes and the Chiefs’ struggling form
During a recent episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Brady, who has played for 23 long seasons in the NFL, provided his expertise on the Chiefs and their offensive troubles. The 48-year-old said:
"They've been trying to find a left tackle at that position for a long time in that offense. And it's a challenge.”
The former New England Patriots’ QB further continued:
“It's a challenge because it affects the way the quarterback feels like, can I really sit back there? And do I trust my teammates up front to be able to protect me enough so I could see downfield to read coverage and then make a very decisive, accurate throw?"
The Chiefs started their 2025 football season with a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers where they lost with a score of 27-21. While Josh Simmons is a starter at the left-tackle position, Wanya Morris plays as a backup. Despite the lineup which features Creed Humphrey as their center along with Kingsley Suamataia and Mike Caliendo playing at left guard and Trey Smith and Jawaan Taylor at the right, the Chiefs have been in trouble affecting their offense.
Talking of star QB Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl champion has only recorded one passing touchdown. His deep-ball struggles have sparked a huge concern following the Chiefs’ loss. The 29-year-old has only thrown five touchdowns. This has been a troubling fall for a quarterback like him. However, Brady did take a moment to give credit to Mahomes for his adopting skills and overcoming the obstacles, referring to it as “Mahomes Magic.”
Brady, during the aforementioned conversation said:
“It takes someone like Patrick Mahomes to kind of pull that Mahomes magic out of his hat in order to keep this team in the game."
Brady also said:
“Despite his stats being down a little bit last year, I still think he had an incredible season. They won 15 games.”
Too much pressure on Mahomes and the Chiefs coming as they head into the second week of the NFL season. Meanwhile, Brady believes the Chiefs are “set up for a pretty good offensive line as they gel and grow together,” which will be “great for Patrick” and he will regain his confidence.
