Philadelphia Eagles faced a scare during their Week 8 matchup against the New York Giants when star running back Saquon Barkley exited the game late in the third quarter. As one of the central figures in Philadelphia’s high-powered offense alongside quarterback Jalen Hurts, Barkley’s sudden departure had fans and analysts on edge.
Barkley exits after explosive performance
Barkley’s injury occurred after a 28-yard burst with under 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter. He immediately limped off the field and was taken to the Eagles’ medical tent for evaluation. Prior to the exit, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year had been dominating the Giants’ defense, compiling 150 rushing yards on 14 carries with a touchdown, along with four catches for 24 yards and another score.
Video replay suggested that Saquon Barkley may have tweaked his hamstring, a common injury among NFL stars recently, including Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Well-known sports physician Jesse Morse also indicated that a hamstring issue was likely.
However, according to Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews, Barkley was officially listed as questionable to return after suffering a groin injury.
Saquon Barkley observed from sidelines
Despite the scare, Barkley remained engaged with the team from the sidelines. After being evaluated in the medical tent, he returned to watch the action and celebrated a 29-yard run by backup RB Tank Bigsby. Bigsby’s effort helped maintain the Eagles’ momentum, with a 40-yard drive that set up a 17-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to tight end Dallas Goedert, extending Philadelphia’s lead to 31-13.
Barkley’s ability to remain involved despite the injury reflects his commitment to the team, while the Eagles’ depth at running back allowed them to sustain offensive production.
Barkley Confirms He’s Doing Fine
Saquon Barkley personally reassured fans and teammates after the evaluation, confirming that he was okay. He said,
“I'm good. We had a good lead so they sat me down a little bit.”
His calm response reflected both his confidence in his condition and the team’s strategic approach to preserving him for the remainder of the season.
