Story Highlights:

Taylor Swift is nominated for the 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame, adding excitement for Travis Kelce before Thursday Night Football.

The Chiefs enter Week 8 on a hot streak, with Kelce and Patrick Mahomes leading a dominant offense.

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Washington Commanders in Week 8, tight end Travis Kelce has more than just football on his mind. Following a dominant 31-0 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, Kelce and the Chiefs are riding a hot streak — and his fiancee, Taylor Swift, just received news that adds an extra spark to the week.

Chiefs ride momentum into week 8

The Chiefs enter their Thursday night matchup at Arrowhead Stadium with confidence after a commanding win over the Raiders. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to lead an explosive offense, while Travis Kelce caught all three of his targets for 54 yards in the previous game.

During the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast, Kelce reflected on the team’s performance:

“There’s some mind-blowing stats. Like, we had as many first downs (30) as they had offensive plays. It’s crazy to kind of think about what really went on this past Sunday.”

The team’s dominance, combined with the energy from a supportive home crowd, has set the tone for a high-stakes matchup against the Commanders.

Taylor Swift’s music inspires the Chiefs

Kelce’s family has been quick to celebrate both the Chiefs’ performance and his relationship with Swift. His older brother, Jason Kelce, gave the team props while giving a nod to Swift, who attended the Chiefs-Raiders game. Jason highlighted that Mahomes used Taylor Swift’s track “Opalite” from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, in an Instagram highlight reel:

“The sky is definitely opalite in Kansas City right now for the Chiefs. There’s no question. It was Onyx for the first two weeks, but we are full on beautiful.”

Travis Kelce responded with enthusiasm:

“That’s too good. I told y’all it was gonna be a banger, man.”

The song “Opalite,” inspired by Travis and his birthstone, made history by becoming the fastest non-single in history to reach 100 million streams on Spotify — one day before the Chiefs’ Week 7 game.

Swift earns songwriters hall of fame nomination

Adding to the excitement, Taylor Swift received monumental news just ahead of the Chiefs-Commanders matchup. On October 23, 2025, Swift was nominated for the 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame in the Performing Songwriters category.

Other nominees include legendary artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Pink, LL Cool J, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley of KISS, and Kenny Loggins. Swift qualifies for induction as a songwriter whose first commercial release, “Tim McGraw”, dropped in June 2006. Only the top three nominees will ultimately be inducted.

This milestone represents not only recognition for Taylor Swift’s decades-long career but also serves as a morale boost for Travis Kelce as he heads into a critical NFL matchup.
