Tom Brady calls his business partner Tom Wagner an "incredible businessman" with "huge ambitions" for Birmingham’s sporting future.

A £3.9 billion redevelopment plan is underway in Birmingham, featuring a futuristic 62,000-seat stadium.

NFL icon Tom Brady is charting an ambitious new course that could transform the global reach of American football. The seven-time Super Bowl champion, who now plays an active role off the field as a minority owner of Birmingham City FC, has revealed his vision of taking the NFL’s crown jewel—the Super Bowl—beyond U.S. borders, possibly to Birmingham, England.

A bold pitch for Birmingham

In a recent episode of The Sports Agents podcast, Brady surprised listeners by suggesting that Birmingham, rather than London, could be a host city for a future Super Bowl. This marks a significant departure from traditional thinking around NFL international expansion.

"That would be pretty amazing," Brady said. "I don't make all those decisions. I'm not sure how much I can influence those decisions. But I think that my partner, Tom Wagner [Birmingham City's chairman], is an incredible man, incredible businessman. He has huge ambitions for the club, and I would never bet against anything that he tries to accomplish."

Tom Brady’s statement reflects not only his growing off-field involvement in sports ventures but also a calculated push for globalizing the NFL. With growing international fan bases and regular-season games now played overseas, the NFL has shown increasing interest in global expansion—something Brady is clearly aligning with.

Stadium of the Future: Birmingham’s grand plan

The idea isn’t just talk. Birmingham’s proposed £3 billion ($3.9 billion) redevelopment project includes a cutting-edge 62,000-seat stadium located in the Bordesley Green area. The futuristic venue, dubbed by many as resembling a "spaceship," is part of a broader initiative to build a “Sports Quarter” featuring training facilities, restaurants, commercial space, and entertainment venues.

The stadium—set to more than double the capacity of the current St. Andrew’s stadium—is scheduled for completion by 2029. The infrastructure package supporting it includes £300-400 million ($390-520 million) in funding and a new tram line to connect the development with the rest of Birmingham.

Tom Brady's vision beyond football

Brady’s involvement is more than symbolic. Since his retirement from professional football, he has leaned into entrepreneurial and ownership ventures. His partnership with Birmingham City FC and public support for the city’s sporting evolution suggest he's thinking long-term—and globally.

While there's no official confirmation from the NFL about future Super Bowl sites beyond the U.S., Tom Brady’s comments have certainly pushed Birmingham into the conversation.

If Brady’s blueprint materializes, it could mark one of the most radical shifts in NFL history—taking the most-watched American sporting event and planting it firmly on international soil. With infrastructure already in the works and momentum building, the idea that once seemed far-fetched now appears closer to reality.
