Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a season-ending ankle injury during the team's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. But that hasn't stopped him and his wife Mariah from supporting the people who have suffered from Hurricane Helene and offering to support the Tampa Bay community.

How did Chris Godwin and his wife help the people of Tampa?

The Tampa Bay area saw the aftereffects of Hurricane Helene and then, two weeks later, took a direct hit from Hurricane Milton. ESPN's Tampa Bay Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine spread the news of the good work that Godwin and his wife Mariah are doing to help the animals who have been at the receiving end of both Hurricanes.

Through their 'Team Godwin Foundation' they pledged $50,000 to 'MVP' (Most Vulnerable Pets) to help the animals who are in need. Laine took to her X account to reveal this and once she did this, many fans of the Buccaneers and Ravens donated after his injury.

"For those who don’t know, Chris Godwin and his wife Mariah just pledged $50,000 towards animals affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton and other natural disasters through their 'Most Vulnerable Pets' initiative. A couple of people found their way over to the campaign already, including a Ravens fan https://givebutter.com/TGFMVP"

Until now the initiative has managed to collect over $72,000 and aims to reach $140,000.

The injury status of Chris Godwin

With just 59 seconds remaining in their 41-31 loss to the Ravens, Chris Godwin was tackled by Roquan Smith. During the tackle, Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle and the injury was so bad that the broadcast chose not to show a replay. He left the field on a cart with his leg in the air as the crowd at Raymond James Stadium chanted his name.

He was having the time of his lifetime in the first seven weeks of the season. His 576 receiving yards placed him second in the National Football League (NFL) behind Justin Jefferson.

NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport took to his X account to reveal that Godwin will see a doctor to find out the severity of his injury. It is expected that he will have surgery this week. Godwin is in his final season of the contract with the Buccaneers and will be a free agent starting the 2025 season.
