Taylor Swift has made her mark on NFL stadiums this season, showing up for nearly every Kansas City Chiefs home game to support Travis Kelce. But this time, during the Chiefs’ November 17 matchup against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium, Swift was noticeably absent. The Bills defeated Chiefs 30-21.

Fans speculated that Swift might make the trip to Buffalo, especially given the proximity to Toronto, where she had just wrapped up a run of three Eras Tour concerts. It would’ve been easy enough to make the logistical jump. But Swift opted to sit this one out, taking a break from football after a whirlwind schedule. While that could be the simple explanation, there’s a bit more to the story—especially considering her last experience in Buffalo.

Swift's last appearance in Buffalo

Back in January 2024, when Swift attended a Chiefs-Bills game during the AFC Divisional Playoffs, the visit apparently didn’t go as smoothly as some might expect.

According to sportscaster Adam Lefkoe, who appeared on the Up & Adams podcast, the Kelce family’s reception from Bills fans was less than warm. “I have heard from people very close that it was not a great experience in Buffalo. It was not,” Lefkoe said, adding that the whole situation “shocked the Kelce family.”

Lefkoe went on to describe the atmosphere at Highmark Stadium as unexpectedly hostile, noting that even the Kelce family thought they were walking into a game with “good energy.” Instead, they were met by the infamous Bills Mafia in full, ruthless form. “They experienced Bills Mafia in its complete ruthlessness,” Lefkoe added. After that, it seems the Kelces may have thought twice about returning to the venue anytime soon, with Lefkoe suggesting that they left feeling uncertain about returning.

The reason

Given how much attention this pairing has drawn from both NFL fans and Swifties alike, it’s no surprise that a bad experience in Buffalo might make her hesitant to attend another game there. Since that incident, Jason and Kylie Kelce have continued to attend multiple Eras Tour shows without Travis, further suggesting that their bond with Swift has only grown over the last 10 months.

But now it needs to be seen whether she make an appearance at the Chiefs' next home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 29. While Donna Kelce seems to think Taylor will be "kind of busy," it’s hard to imagine Swift skipping out on a home game altogether, especially considering she’s yet to miss one this season. Whatever happens, it’s clear that this unconventional relationship has sparked plenty of drama ,both on and off the field. And with Swift's absence in Buffalo this week, the curiosity about her next NFL appearance is sure to continue.
