Asian Games 2026: Ancy Sojan wins silver; misses gold by barest of margins

Ancy Sojan has won the silver medal at the Asian Games 2026. She, in her fifth attempt, registered a 6.53 and was in close contention for the gold medal before Huang Yingying recorded a 6.55. The Indian long jump athlete missed the gold medal by the barest of margins. 

The Kerala athlete led the competition for much of the event, recording a best jump of 6.53 metres on her fifth attempt. However, China’s Yingying produced a late 6.55m leap on her final effort to snatch the gold medal by just two centimetres.

The result marks a second consecutive Asian Games silver for Ancy Sojan in the event, following her performance at the Hangzhou Games. She entered the competition in strong form after setting a new national record of 6.88m earlier in the year.

Fellow Indian Shaili Singh, who had been in medal contention, finished fourth with 6.42m after China’s Tan Mengyi jumped 6.46m in the closing stages to claim bronze. Earlier, Animesh Kujur's 200m campaign ended in 5th place at the, clocking 20.80s in the final. 

Meanwhile, Harita Bhadra claimed a bronze medal in the Women's 200m, adding another medal to India's Asian Games 2026 tally. Additionally, Mohammed Afsal has qualified for the Men's 800m.
