'I'd be very happy if...': Ancy Sojan has a wish after winning Asian Games silver medal in long jump

Ancy Sojan claimed silver at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday after a dramatic final. After bringing the medal home, the Indian long jumper has revealed an unexpected personal wish that will make her ‘happy.’

Sojan is wishing for a phone call from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay after doing wonders in Aichi-Nagoya. The 25-year-old from Kerala produced a best jump of 6.53 metres and led for much of the competition.

Speaking after the final, Sojan said:

“I’d be very happy if I can get a call. I like his motivation and all, that’s all I wanna say.”

The athlete has previously shown her admiration for the former film star by recreating one of his iconic poses after winning a national title. Sojan entered the Games as India’s leading long jumper, having set a national record of 6.88m earlier in 2026. Her silver adds to India’s growing athletics medal tally at the Games.

Meanwhile, China’s Huang Yingying overtook her with a final-round leap of 6.55m, leaving Sojan just two centimetres short of gold. Japan’s Tan Mengyi took bronze. The result marks Sojan’s second successive Asian Games silver in the event.
