Neeru Dhanda won a historic gold medal at Asian Games 2026. Neeru won India’s first individual gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. It is India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in women’s trap individual event.

Neeru hit 28 out of 30 shots, creating an Asian Games record to win the gold medal. China's Yunong Sun secured 26 points to bag silver. Kuwait's Hajar Abdulmalik claimed the bronze medal with 21 points.
Earlier in the day, Neeru had qualified for the final by finishing at top with 118 points alongside Qatar's Ray Bassil. It was also a qualification Games record.
Neeru was the top-scorer in the trio of Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer which won the silver medal in women's trap event. The Indian trio had a combined total of 328 points whereas China won the gold medal with a score of 346.
Neeru's epic feat
Before Neeru, no Indian woman had won an Asiad individual medal in trap or skeet shooting events. Among male athletes, India's Randhir Singh had won a gold in men's individual trap event in Asian Games 1978. 42 years later, Ronjan Sodhi had won a gold medal in men's double trap event.
5th gold for India
This is India's fifth gold medal at Asian Games 2026. Earlier, the women's cricket team, men and women's kabaddi team and 10. air pistol mixed team won the gold for India in the ongoing games.
Cousin inspired Neeru to become shooter, now sky is the limit
Neeru is the cousin of Asian Games 2018 men's trap silver medalist Lakshya Sheoran. He inspired Neeru to take up the sport.
Earlier this year, she won a gold medal in ISSF Shotgun World Cu in Lonato del Garda, Italy. She also won a bronze in the mixed team event. Last year, she won a gold in individual and team event at Asian Championships.
