The 2026 Asian Games are all set to begin tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, with its official opening ceremony. However, India already kicked off its campaign two days ahead with Teqball, which made its debut at the multi-sport event in Japan.

Meanwhile, in its debut, the players have already impressed with teh game, almost ready to give India its first medal. Quimcy Dsouza has surged into the women’s singles semi-finals at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, putting herself one win away from a historic medal for India in the sport’s Games debut.
The 24-year-old from Mumbai topped her group on Friday after two strong performances at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center. She staged a comeback to defeat Japan’s highly ranked Yuina Sakamoto 2-1 (10-12, 12-11, 13-11) before securing a more comfortable 2-0 (12-9, 12-7) victory over Cambodia’s Koemyean Dy.
Quimcy Dsouza one step from Asian Games history in teqball debut
Dsouza, the Indian teqball player, will face Indonesia’s Sumaya in the semi-final. A win would guarantee her a place on the podium and a shot at gold in the final. Even a defeat would leave open a bronze-medal opportunity against the loser of the other semi-final.
Teqball, a hybrid of football and table tennis played on a curved table, is appearing at the Asian Games for the first time in Aichi-Nagoya 2026. A medal for Dsouza would mark India’s first in the discipline.
A former footballer and athlete who represented Maharashtra, Dsouza took up teqball in 2022. She has since become a seven-time national champion, reached a career-high world ranking of No. 24, and finished ninth at the 2026 World Championships in Romania.
Quincy is currently working as a test engineer at Decathlon in Bengaluru while competing for the Teqball Club of Bangalore. Her progress comes as Indian teqball continues to gain international visibility, with teammates also competing in doubles and mixed events at the Games.
