The New York Yankees have officially secured the best record in the American League (AL) for the 2024 season, finishing with a commendable 93-68 record. This achievement was clinched following the Cleveland Guardians' narrow 4-3 defeat to the Houston Astros, ensuring that the Yankees will enjoy home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs. This marks a significant turnaround for the Yankees, who had a tough 2023 season, narrowly avoiding their first losing record in decades with an 82-80 finish. General manager Brian Cashman described that season as a "disaster," making this year’s success even more better for the organization and its fans. Yankees record is the third-best in the Majors, trailing only the Dodgers (96-64) and the Phillies (94-67).

Giancarlo Stanton the hitter and outfielder for the New York Yankees on being asked if the Yankees are the team to beat in this season replied: "We'd better be. That's the point. We've got it, from top to bottom, It's not about what's on paper, though. It's about coming up, and showing up. This won't mean much in about a week when it's time to get to work."

Judge's role

While the Yankees won't be celebrating this triumph wholeheartedly as they previously toasted their entry into the postseason and clinching the AL East title twice this month—the Yankees are focused on their upcoming challenges. They will kick off their playoff journey on October 5 at Yankee Stadium in the American League Division Series. Key players will be instrumental in the Yankees' postseason aspirations. Aaron Judge, who is eying for his second AL Most Valuable Player Award, leads the league with an impressive 58 home runs. His consistent performance has been a driving force for the team. Additionally, the acquisition of Juan Soto has strengthened the lineup, providing a reliable on-base threat that complements Judge's power-hitting capabilities.

However, not all news is positive; first baseman Anthony Rizzo has fractured fingers due to a hit-by-pitch incident, raising concerns about his availability for the playoffs. As the Yankees prepare for their postseason run, all eyes will be on how they can leverage their strengths while overcoming any obstacles in their path to success.

"We missed it last year, which definitely disappointed everybody in this room. When you wear these pinstripes and play in this stadium, you're expected to win. We came up short [in 2023]. We want to make a statement that it isn't going to happen again," Judge said.
