Fans in Major League Baseball (MLB) are witnessing something that the sport has never seen in its history. All credit goes to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani after he became the first player to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same year. As of Monday, 23rd September, Ohtani has 53 home runs and 55 stolen bases to his name.

What did Jose Canseco have to say for Shohei Ohtani?

After reaching the historic 50-50 landmark, players and analysts came forward to congratulate Ohtani. He is making his case strong to be considered as the best player in the league and also the best to have ever graced the field.

But, there was someone who had a different approach on this matter and it is none other than Oakland Athletics star Jose Canseco. He took to his social media to praise himself as a trailblazer for his combination of both, power and speed.

"I walked so Shohei Ohanti could run," Canseco posted on his social media.

Jose Canseco in his playing days was a unique player as he could swipe bases and hit monstrous home runs. Back in the day, when Canseco used to play, he was a must-watch.

It was during the 1988 season with Oakland Athletics that Canseco became the first player to register a 40-40 season in the history of the sport. He had 42 home runs and 40 stolen bases to his name. Later on, he went on to become the American League MVP.

Shohei Ohtani frontrunner to win MVP award

The Los Angeles Dodgers star has gone through so much to reach where he currently is right now, which makes his 50-50 season even more remarkable. From sustaining yet another UCL injury to his interpreter allegedly stealing millions of dollars from him, Ohtani has kept everything aside as he eyes yet another MVP.

Even after having such kind of a season, some people still argue whether Ohtani should get another MVP award as he is a designated hitter. This has helped the cause of Francesco Lindor, who has been on point at both the plate and on defence.
