The New York Mets have been going through a rough patch as they lost their series opener on the trot for the third time as Los Angeles Dodgers defeated them 7-5 on Friday at Citi Field. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were the previous teams that managed to get the better of Mets in their respective series opener.
Carlos Mendoza on Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos status for Los Angeles Dodgers
The New York Mets needs their key players to make a comeback in order to end their misery. Mark Vientos was not available for Friday night and Brandon Nimmo left the game in the second inning. Nimmo is out due to neck stiffness, while Vientos is dealing with left abdominal soreness.
The New York Mets coach Carlos Mendoza ahead of the game against Los Angeles Dodgers gave an update on the availability status of both Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo.
Day-to-day — we’re checking with the trainers, Mendoza said of both sluggers. Nemo, obviously dealing with a stiff neck. After the first at-bat, he came up to me and said, ‘It’s hard for me to pull the trigger right now,’ you know?
And then Vientos — that was right before the game. He was hitting in the cages and reported some abdominal soreness. The trainers are telling me it’s day-to-day. So right now, we’re not planning on doing any imaging or anything like that, but we’ll see where we’re at tomorrow.
What happened to both Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos?
Brandon Nimmo left the game against Dodgers on Friday after crashing into the wall while trying to take a catch in the second inning. He was then replaced by Jeff McNeil. McNeil later had a triple double in the ninth inning which helped the Mets make a comeback against Dodgers.
The injury, as mentioned by Carlos Mendoza is day to day and it expected that the outfielder would be sidelined for some days. However, he won't be placed on the IL list.
Meanwhile, that's not the case with Mark Veintos as he might return to the lineup by the end of the week. He was the only scratch from Friday's starting lineup after he felt soreness in the left side abdominal during a batting cage session. In place of Vientos, Brett Braty was playing third base. He homered in Friday's game, which should help him retain his spot for Saturday's encounter and allow Vientos to recover properly.
The Mets home stand will continue after the series against the Dodgers as they are all set to host Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies before heading to LA for a reverse fixture.
