Eugenio Suarez to New York Yankees?

His expiring contract makes him available as a trade candidate for several teams looking to change their fortunes in the second half of the season. Amid all the trade rumors, the New York Yankees are coming out as clear favorites and here are the reasons why.

Three reasons why New York Yankees would like to go for Eugenio Suarez

1. Third baseman issue solved with Eugenio Suarez

The 33-year-old brings lots of things to the table which includes his heroics as third baseman. The Yankees were reeling in that position and they only had to DFA DJ LeMahieu due to his poor runs of performances.

Right now, they have Oswald Peraza as their only options and manager Aaron Boone wants Jazz Chisholm Jr. to play at his normal position, which is second base. Peraza doesn't give a lot at the plate so among many options, Suarez fits perfectly.

2. Long term commitment

Among many players available as third base ahead of the trade deadline, Eugenio Suarez's half yearly rental is exactly what the Yankees are looking for. St. Louis Cardinals' Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies' Ryan McMahon and the Pittsburgh Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes are amongst the options, but all of them see themselves under contract for many years and with high salaries too.

However, with Suarez nearing his contract end and becoming a free agent, the Yankees won't have to take any long term liability.

3. High production and defensive versatility

After seven years, Eugenio Suarez is once again heading into the All-Star break as a player rather than enjoying it from the outside. All thanks to high production for the DBacks, Suarez has earned himself his second All-Star selection this season.

Getting him will help the Yankees get another at-bat with good production in their ranks. Due to his defensive abilities, Chisholm Jr. won't be guarding the hot corner and play as a second base for the rest of the year.
