The Milwaukee Brewers have officially placed their rookie sensation and National League All-Star pitcher, Jacob Misiorowski, on the 15-day injured list just three hours before his scheduled start on Sunday, August 3. The 23-year-old right-hander sustained a left tibia contusion after being struck by a line drive during his last outing.
Rookie sensation Misiorowski’s meteoric rise
Misiorowski’s rapid ascent to the All-Star roster has been nothing short of remarkable. After only five starts, the towering 6-foot-7 pitcher earned his spot on the National League All-Star team, thanks to his overpowering fastball that touches 102 mph and a series of dominant performances.
His impact has been vital as the Brewers maintain a two-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the fiercely competitive NL Central and hold the best overall record in Major League Baseball.
Injury details and replacement
The injury occurred during Misiorowski’s most recent start when Chicago Cubs’ Seiya Suzuki’s line drive struck him on the left shin. Despite the discomfort, Misiorowski initially wanted to continue pitching but eventually agreed to a cautious approach. Logan Henderson will step in as the starting pitcher in his place.
Misiorowski commented on his condition, stating,
I wasn’t bouncing back as well as I was hoping. It’s still a little sore from getting hit. He added, I’m competitive. I want to play every game. It sucks. It’s not fun to sit on the bench. At the same time, I don’t want to go out there and not have my best stuff. If the best is me sitting on the bench, that’s what I’ll do.
Looking ahead: recovery and future starts
The team has retroactively dated Misiorowski’s injured list placement to July 31, meaning the minimum 15-day period will sideline him for about two starts. He remains optimistic about his return and expects to pitch again on August 15 against the Cincinnati Reds.
A break might actually benefit the young fireballer, who has already logged 96 2/3 innings this season, almost matching the 97 1/3 innings he threw between Double-A and Triple-A last year. Misiorowski sees the injury as a chance to manage his workload better.
Obviously, it’ll help with the mileage and stuff – two starts that get knocked off, he said. But I don’t think there’s any concerns with it – it’s just go ‘til the end of the year.
The Milwaukee Brewers will be taking on Washington Nationals in the last game of the three match series on Sunday, August 3rd.
