Last season, the New York Mets had reached the ALCS, all thanks to Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor for their heroics in the postseason. This season, the Mets even added Juan Soto on a 15 year deal worth a whopping $765 million contract.
What did Pete Alonso say about Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor?
After Juan Soto, Lindor is the highest earning player on the Mets roster. He signed a 10 year deal worth a whopping $341 million extension in 2021. The duo have great understanding and qualities which was disclosed by Alonso on the On Base with Mookie Betts on Wednesday.
It's awesome because, like, playing with these guys, it's like the thing that I love about Juan and I love about Francisco, those guys come ready to strap it on every single day. And the way they post up, the way they're consistent in their routines, they're the same cats every single day, Alonso said.
The 30-year-old added that the duo remains the same, irrespective of whether he had good performances or not.
They're still in the cage at the same time, they're still in the weight room or in the training room getting treatment. Whatever they're doing, they are ridiculously committed to their routine, they're committed to their process, Alonso added.
He also pointed out that all of his teammates at the Mets have a similar mentality. Alonso feels that Dodgers are one such team who have had difficult games in the MLB.
Pete Alonso on why Juan Soto is special
Juan Soto has not performed to his merit since his record breaking free agent deal. Mookie Betts had asked Pete Alonso what makes Juan Soto so special.
The reason why he's special, I mean, he's a 26-year-old kid, but he's committed to his routine. He's committed to his process, but at the end of the day, the kid eats, sleeps, and drinks ball. Like, he just is so committed to baseball, committed to the game, committed to his craft, Pete Alonso said.
He even mentioned that Soto's professionalism has led many to mistake him for a veteran, even though he is in his eighth season in the MLB.
What he's been able to do and accomplish, it's like, it's because he's been so dedicated and such routine-oriented, and he's owned it. And that's why you get the results on the field, Alonso added.
During his debut season with Nationals, Soto came second, behind Ronald Acuna Jr. in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. He won the World Series with the Nationals in his sophomore season and was ninth in the NL MVP voting.
The best season for Soto came in 2022, when he came second in the NL MVP voting and won the All-Star and Silver Slugger award. Last season with the New York Yankees, Soto had a great partnership with Aaron Judge. He is yet to deliver it for the Mets.
