Chicago Bulls return to the United Center on Sunday night with a chance to build momentum they have been chasing for weeks. Still searching for their first winning streak since mid-November, Chicago faces a New Orleans Pelicans side that handed them one of their most damaging losses of the season earlier this year.
That previous meeting proved costly. New Orleans erupted for 143 points, exposing Chicago’s interior defense while snapping the Bulls into a seven-game spiral.
The Pelicans dominated the paint, finishing with 78 points inside and eight players scoring in double figures. While Chicago leaned heavily on perimeter shooting, the defensive breakdowns ultimately defined the night.
Bulls aim for a different look this time around
The rematch brings renewed optimism for Chicago, largely because the rotation looks significantly different. Zach Collins is now healthy and coming off his strongest performance of the season, providing much-needed physicality in the paint.
Head coach Billy Donovan has also shown a willingness to adjust, experimenting with a double-big lineup featuring Collins alongside Jalen Smith.
That approach paid dividends in Chicago Bulls’ recent win over the Hornets, where Chicago finally halted its seven-game skid. With Derik Queen continuing to show growth, the Bulls appear better equipped to handle New Orleans’ size and interior pressure.
New Orleans injury watch could shift the balance
The Pelicans’ lineup also carries uncertainty. Zion Williamson, who torched Chicago with 29 points in their previous matchup, enters this contest listed as questionable due to an adductor strain.
Williamson has not played since November 29, and his absence would dramatically alter the complexion of the game. Avoiding another matchup with his physical dominance would elevate this contest into must-win territory for the Bulls.
Chicago Bulls Injury Report
Chicago’s own availability remains a central storyline heading into tip-off. Several rotation players are managing injuries that could impact lineup decisions and minutes distribution.
Coby White – Probable (calf)
Dalen Terry – Probable (hand)
Kevin Huerter – Questionable (adductor)
Ayo Dosunmu – Doubtful (thumb)
Dosunmu’s potential absence is particularly notable. He led Chicago with 28 points in the last meeting against New Orleans and remains one of the team’s best transition weapons. With the Pelicans allowing some of the league’s highest fastbreak production, his pace and pressure could be sorely missed.
Huerter, meanwhile, has been upgraded to questionable after missing four straight games. His return would further stabilize a second unit that played a major role in Chicago’s early-season success.
