The Minnesota Timberwolves have a chance to secure a guaranteed playoff spot and avoid the play-in tournament when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday, April 5, while the Phoenix Suns visit the Chicago Bulls.
NBA postseason scenario for Timberwolves and Suns tonight
According to official NBA scenarios released ahead of the games, a Timberwolves victory combined with a Suns defeat would clinch Minnesota a top-six seed in the Western Conference.
Currently, the Timberwolves sit at 46-31, holding the No. 6 position, while the Suns are at 42-35 in seventh place. A direct playoff berth would mark a significant achievement for Minnesota, which has battled consistency late in the season.
The Suns, meanwhile, would be officially locked into the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament, which runs from April 14-17 under the same outcome, extending their stay in the lower tier of the West standings.
With the regular season winding down and the playoffs set to begin on April 18, both teams face high stakes on Sunday. Minnesota aims to solidify its position against a weaker Hornets squad, while Phoenix looks to keep its slim hopes alive on the road against Chicago.
