Officers responded to a distress call around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, where they arrested Armstrong at the scene. He was later released after posting a $35,000 bond.

An affidavit tied to Armstrong’s arrest revealed that the victim had previously endured multiple violent incidents involving the coach. However, she had not reported them to authorities, fearing the consequences for Armstrong’s career and job. This information was shared by the victim to police, as reported by Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth.

Mavericks' response and suspension

In response to the incident, the Dallas Mavericks swiftly placed Armstrong on administrative suspension, pending the outcome of legal proceedings. A statement from the team confirmed their awareness of the situation, stating,

The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident. We take this matter seriously.

The statement also added that Armstrong’s suspension will remain in effect until legal processes unfold.

Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.

Armstrong’s career and role with the Mavericks

Armstrong, who has been with the Mavericks in various roles since 2009, has served as an assistant coach for the past decade. Prior to coaching, Armstrong enjoyed a distinguished 14-year NBA career. He was named the NBA's Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year in 1999 while playing for the Orlando Magic. Armstrong also had stints with the Dallas Mavericks (2004-2006), New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, and New Jersey Nets.
