Draymond Greens expressed his thoughts on a report that claimed Golden State Warriors' assistant coach Chris DeMarco will become the head coach of the New York Liberty. DeMarco has been part of Warriors' coaching setup since 2012. As per the reports, when Demarco will leave the Warriors for the WNBA side has not been ascertained.
Chris DeMarco's long journey with the Golden State Warriors
Shams Charania broke the news on Friday.
Green reacted to Charania's report on Instagram, writing:
“Yesssirr CD! (Liberty) got a great one!"
Chris DeMarco and Draymond Green joined the Warriors in the same year. DeMarco's first attempt with coaching in the NBA came after Mark Jackson included him in the coaching staff. When the Warriors brought in Steve Kerr in 2014 to replace Jackson, Kerr kept DeMarco.
On the other hand, Green was the Warriors' second-round pick in 2012. After picking Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli in the first round, the team made the former Michigan State forward the No.35 pick in the draft.
DeMarco and Green's strong collaboration
DeMarco and Green secured four championships together in six NBA finals. The former is said to be an amazing tactician, while the latter is the team's defensive glue and the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year. They were key figures to an underrated part of the Warriors' dynasty.
Chris DeMarco has a big task to replace Sandy Brondello, who led he Liberty to its first franchise championship in 2024. Brondello also led the team win the WNB Commissioner's Cup in 2023.
Draymond Green backs Golden State Valkyries
Draymond Green will not transfer his allegiance to the New York Liberty even with Chris DeMarco being the side's new coach. As long as he stays with the Warriors, he will support the Golden State Valkyries.
The Valkyries, the WNBA's 2025 expansion team, share the same owners as the Warriors. On various occasions during the Valkyries' journey, Green and even DeMarco donned shirts supporting their women's team.
Green is a loyal teammate and a Joe Lacob supporter. He will not change his loyalties towards the Valkyries even when DeMarco moves on to New York.
