Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta’s company, Fertitta Entertainment, has agreed to purchase the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun for $300 million. In addition to this, the deal will relocate the franchise to Houston, reviving the historic Houston Comets name for the 2027 season at Toyota Center.

Meanwhile, the sale is currently pending approval by the WNBA board of governors. The Sun will remain in Connecticut in 2026 before moving to Houston. Comets initially formed in 1997 were one of the eight original teams in the league.
The original Comets were the WNBA’s first dynasty, winning four straight championships from 1997 to 2000 behind stars like Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes before folding in 2008. The move marks the league’s return to Houston after an 18-year absence and is expected to boost women’s basketball in the city.
Meanwhile, the Rockets will face the New York Knicks next. They are coming off a 134-102 win against the New Orleans Pelicans and are 6th in the Western Conference.
