Blockbuster trade partners Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic met for the first time on the court after swapping teams in Wednesday's clash between Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. It was an emotional moment for Luka Doncic as he was stepping foot on the American Airlines Center for the first time since his trade.
What was Anthony Davis' message to Luka Doncic?
Before the game even started, Doncic had shed tears as the Mavericks paid a tribute to him in a heartfelt video. He didn't hold on to his emotions as the home crowd cheered him on. The 26-year-old Slovenian superstar had earned everybody's sympathy as he realized how much Dallas meant to him after watching his reaction to the tribute.
Anthony Davis knew what Doncic had went through emotionally as he felt the same when he left LA Lakers. It was a place that he thought he will spend more time but couldn't. However, both the franchise took the different route.
Despite conceding 45 points and enduring a tough 122-97 loss, every member of the Mavericks team including Davis comforted Doncic after the game to let him know that they were proud of him. This is what NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote on his X account.
Every single member of the Mavs, including Anthony Davis, came up to Luka Doncic after the game smiling and telling them how proud of him they are. That was followed by hugs from Patrick Mahomes and Mark Cuban.
Doncic was so numb to the point that he almost gave up stepping on the court after watching his tribute video. Not just this, his teammates had his back as he notched up his best performance of the year.
Doncic has played a total of 27 games for the Lakers and in those games, he averages 27.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
The Los Angeles Lakers are third in the Western Conference with a record of 49-31 and are on a one game winning streak. On the other hand, the Dallas Mavericks are placed tenth in the Western Conference with a record of 38-42 and are on a three game losing streak.
