Social media is flooded with the news that Carmelo Anthony is making a U-turn from retirement and will join the Los Angeles Lakers. The 10-time NBA All-Star officially announced his retirement in May 2023, which ended his 19-season career in the league. However, there are reports that the 41-year-old is ready to join JJ Redick’s side. Is it true? Let's find out.
Is Carmelo Anthony REALLY coming out of retirement to join Lakers?
No. Carmelo Anthony is not coming out of retirement to join the Lakers, at least for now. The former player has not posted anything regrading the viral news nor has any source. The rumors stem from a post by Clutch Points, which posted:
“BREAKING: Carmelo Anthony is COMING BACK from retirement and signing with the Lakers for the remainder of the season, per Shams.”
The post further read:
"I looked at the roster, I looked at Bron, and I just knew the story wasn't finished.
I've been in the gym, the jumper is still pure, and I truly feel this is my absolute best chance to finally win a ring.
It's time to bring that Hoodie Melo energy back to LA.
Stay Melo."
However, the post was an April Fool's Day joke from the account that posts real news. However, on Wednesday, April 1, the news regarding Carmelo was only on a lighter note to fool its audience.
