Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla addressed Jayson Tatum's injury following the win over the Orlando Magic in game 2 of the Playoffs. The star forward missed out on the game due to a wrist injury and could remain out for Game 3 as well. Mazzulla got hold of the same and stated that there is a scant chance that Tatum will feature in Game 3.
Joe Mazzulla Provides Update on Jayson Tatum
“He’s dealing with a severe bone bruise. He’s day-to-day,” Mazzulla said in his weekly interview on 98.5’s Zolak and Bertrand. “He’s progressively gotten a little bit better each day.”
Jayson Tatum injured his wrist in Game 1's fourth quarter after a collision with Magic's Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who received a flagrant foul. Tatum remained in the game despite the injury.
Jayson Tatum confirmed that X-rays were clear after his injury, but an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his right wrist. He was listed as "doubtful" for Game 2.
“Yesterday, he went through all the protocols and did everything he could possibly do, up until the last moment to try and play,” Mazzulla said on Thursday. “Just wasn’t able to do it. But, he’ll go back at it again today, and he’s in that day-to-day process right now. He’ll do whatever it takes to put himself in a position to play and put our team in a position to win. That’s just kind of who he is. We’re just trusting that.”
The Boston Celtics have been a formidable side throughout the season, and one of the aspects that differentiated them from most of the teams is that they are not dependent on one or two players. The entire team contributes as a unit, and perhaps the reason why they were able to register a comfortable win despite the absence of a world-beater like Jayson Tatum. While Tatum's injury is a huge setback, the defending champions will still enter the field as favorites on most occasions in the current scenario.
