Kawhi Leonard gave an easy solution to the LA Clippers' defensive struggles. The Clippers (5-13) have been on rough ride this season. They are in the 23th place in the Western Conference standings after facing a 135-118 loss against their hometown rivals, the LA Lakers, on Tuesday.
Luka Doncic shocked the Clippers' defense and finished with 43 points to claim the win. Nikola Jokic did the same and amassed 55 points in the Nuggets' 130-116 win against the Clippers on November 12.
Leonard spoke with Law Murray of "The Athletic" following Tuesday's loss and requested the team to put pressure on their opponents' star players.
"I think we got to start making it a little bit harder on the better offensive player on every team," He said. "Tonight, Luka put 40. In one of the games, Jokic had 50. So I think we've got to try and make them pass the ball like they're doing to us."
Kawhi Leonard played his seventh game of the season on Tuesday. He has been out of the starting lineup with ankle and foot issues. However, being one the bench gave the Clippers star the time to observe his team's strengths and weakness. He finished with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss against the Lakers.
Kawhi Leonard thinks the Clippers require more talent after Lakers loss
Kawhi Leonard thinks the LA Clippers require more talent after facing a bitter loss against the Lakers. The Klaw expressed his opinion on his team's recent dip in a postgame interview with Joey Linn of Sports Illustrated.
"Just gotta get the right lineups on the court, I guess. Get some more talent. Play with better talent and see what happens," he said.
Linn questioned Leonard to elaborate what he meant by "more talent" and if his statements applied to the talent inside the team. In his response, the Clippers justified that he was talking about playing better on the court.
"I’m saying like playing better. Like we all just gotta play better. Make shots, move the ball a little bit more, trust one another and just get better."
The Clippers already have a squad featuring some big players. Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Chris Paul are some of the most decorated players in the league, while John Collins, Ivica Zubac and Brook Lopez are well known for their talent.
However, they have the oldest roster in the league with an average age of 30.7. So, it might not be a bad idea to ship some older veterans and bring in some young talent.
