The Los Angeles Lakers are in turmoil after the franchise received unfortunate news on Luka Doncic’s injury. The 17-time NBA Champions are already without superstar LeBron James who is yet to make his NBA debut this season.
Luka Doncic injury update as Lakers star sidelined amid LeBron James’ absence
According to a report by ESPN, Doncic has suffered a 'left finger sprain' and a 'lower left contusion'. Following this, the Slovenian will be sidelined for at least one week, as per a report by the organization.
The former Real Madrid basketball star has carried the injury-plagued team where he recorded 43 points in the Lakers’ season-opening loss to the Golden State Warriors. He also scored 49 points in a victory last Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following his performance in the first two games, he broke a 56-year franchise record previously held by Jerry West. The player is in his second season with the franchise after his blockbuster trade last February, which shocked the NBA world. It is also his first full season with JJ Redick’s side.

While the 26-year-old stays out as he continues his rehabilitation from a sciatica issue on his right side, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura have to carry the pressure as James has also been ruled out until mid-November. Reaves recorded a career-high 51 points against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night and is expected to be a No.1 scoring option.
Although James cannot play on the court right now, the injury did not stop him from appearing on the sidelines and supporting his side against the Timberwolves. The Lakers are currently 2-2 in the regular season after losing their most recent fixture against the Portland Trail Blazers with a score of 122-108. The team will next play against the Timberwolves, who also have the same record, ahead of their encounter.
