Jimmy Butler's stint with the Miami Heat has finally come to an end as the forward was traded to the Golden State Warriors as a part of a 5-team deal on Wednesday, as per Shams Charania.
Charinia's sources reported that Butler signed an extension with the Warriors, which was rumoured to be the obstacle that was stopping the deal from proceeding. Butler inked a two-year, $ 121 million extension with Golden State through the 2026-27 season. He also declined his player option in the 2025-26 season.
Butler and the Heat arrived at a stalemate after the relations deteriorated in recent weeks. As the relations tarnished, the franchise recently levied a suspension of indefinite period on Butler. Consequently, the 35-year-old was hell-bent on a move away from Miami and both parties have finally found a common ground.
Now, the deal is done and the Heat get an incredibly good package of starters and role players while Butler can try and provide Warriors star Stephen Curry with one last run at an NBA title.
While Butler has found Warriors as his new harbour, there were heavy reports that the 6-time All-Star has picked Phonix Suns as his ultimate destination. The rumors of Butler to the Suns remained constant throughout the NBA trade window but eventually, it was the Warriors who made the winning offer for Jimmy Butler.
With Luka Doncic joining forces with LeBron James at LA Lakers and Anthony Davis uniting with Kyrie Irving at the Dallas Mavericks, it was the Warriors' turn to find a perfect partner for Stephen Curry. As it turns out, it could be gauged that the Warriors have made the right call. However, as the Golden State are in a precarious position in the league, only time will tell whether the inclusion of Jimmy Butler will pay any dividends or not.
