While almost a month has passed since the sensational transaction between the Dallas Mavericks and LA Lakers took place, more and more revelations about the move are still flowing. It was a difficult decision for both the franchises to let go of their premier scorers, but both willingly went ahead with the trade. Thus, as a result, Luka Doncic is now a part of the Lakers and Anthony Davis has brought his talents to the Mavericks.

Letting Anthony Davis Go Was a Hard Choice Made by the Lakers

As per a fresh disclosure about the trade, the Los Angeles Lakers were not ready to give away Anthony Davis but realised it was the price they had to pay to bring Luka Doncic on board. Los Angeles Lakers team governor Jeanie Buss reiterated the team wasn't shopping star forward Anthony Davis before sending him to the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Luka Dončić.

"When the opportunity came up, we were not looking to move Anthony Davis," she said on The Rich Eisen Show. "He was our rock-solid player, so we had to give up a lot to get Luka."

Ramona Shelburne and Tim MacMahon of ESPN divulged the details of how the transaction became successful. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka met Mavericks GM Nico Harrison at a Dallas-area coffee shop, at Harrison's request, on Jan. 7, and that's when the negotiations began in earnest.

Anthony Davis Was Signed with Vivid Vision

Los Angeles originally roped in Davis with the idea that he would succeed LeBron James in the franchise. However, his ill fate with injuries and the Lakers' inability to return to the NBA finals following the title-winning season of 2020, raised doubts over Davis' candidature to take over the helm from King James. As Luka Doncic is touted as a generational talent and with age on his side, the Lakers could not help but pounce on the opportunity to recruit the Slovenian.
