The New York Liberty will lock horns against Golden State Valkyries on Thursday, May 29th at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York. All eyes would be on Sabrina Ionescu, whether she starts against Golden State Valkyries or not.
Will Sabrina Ionescu start against Golden State Valkyries?
The 27-year-old guard is all set to suit up for the clash against the Golden State Valkyries as she is not listed on the team's injury report. Her availability for the clash against Valkyries was confirmed by the franchise's coaching staff.
Ionescu was suffering from a high-grade ulnar collateral ligament tear in her right thumb that she sustained during Game 4 of the 2024 WNBA Finals. Ionescu played through pain as she had a key role in the Liberty's championship-winning Game 5. She notched up five points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three combined steals and blocks.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Ionescu has been fit in the ongoing WNBA season but her offensive play has seen a dip. While the Liberty has had a great start to the season winning all four matches, Ionescu's play has been one of the concerns. She is just averaging 13.8 points and 4.8 assists per game which is her lowest since the 2021 season.
However, her performance against Indiana Fever on May 23rd showed her class as Liberty secured a comfortable 90-88 victory. During that match, Ionescu registered 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Nyara Sabally is listed as questionable for the New York Liberty.
Despite Golden State Valkyries' great run of form, New York fans can expect their team to secure an easy win on Thursday and extend their winning streak to five matches. In her last match against the Valkyries on May 27th, Sabrina Ionescu recorded just eight points. She will look to redeem herself when she steps foot on the court on Thursday.
