The second-seeded San Antonio Spurs will open the 2026 NBA playoffs against the seventh-seeded Portland Trail Blazers, after Portland earned its spot with a dramatic 114-110 play-in victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
Spurs to face Trail Blazers in Western Conference first-round NBA Playoff series
Deni Avdija starred for the Blazers with a career-night 41-point performance, including clutch plays in the fourth quarter to overcome an 11-point deficit.
The win marks Portland’s first playoff appearance in five years and sends them into a challenging matchup against a Spurs team led by Victor Wembanyama that finished the regular season with a strong 62-20 record. San Antonio took the season series 2-1, including a recent 112-101 win.
Game 1 is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, in San Antonio. The series pits two young, athletic rosters against each other in what many view as a potential upset opportunity for the surging Blazers or a statement series for the rising Spurs.
