The much-awaited 2025 WNBA playoffs have arrived, with the first round of matches to be held today. As the journey to the title begins on Sunday, India Fever will start their playoffs against the Atlanta Dreams. The Eastern Conference side has already lost five of its players to injury, including superstar Caitlyn Clark. The guard has played only 13 games this season so far.
Will Caitlin Clark return for the Indiana Fever’s WNBA playoffs opener?
Unfortunately, key player Caitlyn Clark won’t be playing the WNBA playoffs Game 1 following an injury. The 23-year-old has not played since July 15 due to a right groin injury. It was announced by the franchise earlier this month that the Iowa Hawkeyes player will be out for the remainder of the season. It was also said that Clark, who missed the team’s final three regular-season games would also miss the potential postseason play. Hence, the player won't be returning to play for this season.
Clark has been plagued by injuries and will be sidelined for the entire 2025 WNBA campaign; a major concern for the franchise to miss its star player when she is needed the most. She has only attended 13 of Indiana's 41 games. During her four seasons with the Hawkeyes, the point guard managed to appear in every game. During her first WNBA season, she won the Rookie of the Year award following her performance when she led her side in assists and 3-pointers.
In the absence of Clark, guards Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull, and posts Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard are expected to lead. They are experienced and have appeared in all the games this season for the Fever. It is to be seen how they tackle the Dream, who played their best regular season in the history of the franchise. Karl Smesko’s side concluded the regular season with its best win percentage and a record 30 wins. The franchise would be showing off with their second-best offense and defense in the league this season while Stephanie White’s team are not at full strength.
