Angel Reese, the rising WNBA star, recently made headlines by subtly challenging the $2 million estimate of her net worth. The 22-year-old athlete's candid remarks during a conversation at ComplexCon in Las Vegas not only sparked interest in her financial standing but also highlighted her commitment to using her wealth to uplift those around her.

In a world where athletes' earnings are often scrutinized, Reese's openness about her financial journey offers a glimpse into the life of a successful young woman balancing career, family, and personal ambition.

Angel Reese Challenges $2 Million Net Worth Estimate

At ComplexCon, during a panel discussion with Speedy Morman, Reese was asked about the widely circulated estimate of her net worth, pegged at around $2 million. Reese's reaction was immediate and firm—she disagreed.

When Morman asked, "Is it inaccurate?" Reese responded confidently, "Yeah, it's way off."

Reese, who has become a household name thanks to her standout performances and high-profile endorsement deals, made it clear that her financial worth exceeds this estimate. However, she stopped short of revealing her actual net worth. Instead, she focused on how her wealth is being used to improve the lives of her loved ones.

"It's not just a luxury for me, It's a luxury for everybody around me. I'm able to soon retire my mom, I can pay off my mortgage, my family, everybody’s taken care of… One thing about me, I have a really good circle around me, and I think that’s really important," Reese explained.

A Generous Spirit: Reese's Commitment to Her Circle

Reese's openness about her wealth—and the ways in which she shares it—has earned her praise on social media. Fans have lauded her for being generous with those closest to her and for staying grounded despite her newfound fame.

One social media user shared their admiration, writing, "I love this bc she was saying this in college. She said everybody doesn’t get these opportunities, so she takes care of her circle. They eat with her. Most people don’t like that when they come up. I have hella respect for her remaining a GIVER out here!"

Reese’s ability to stay true to her roots and support her family and friends, even as she rises in the sports world, has resonated with many. Fans have expressed their admiration for her, with one commenting, "Angel said everybody gonna eat. That’s real."

The WNBA Doesn’t Pay My Bills

Angel Reese also made waves last month with a bold statement about her WNBA salary. During an Instagram live session, she shared that her WNBA income is insufficient to cover her monthly expenses, including her rent.

"I just hope y'all know, the WNBA don't pay my bills at all, I don't even think it pays one of my bills, literally." She went on to reveal that her monthly rent alone is $8,000, a figure that highlights the financial pressures many athletes face, especially in leagues with smaller salaries like the WNBA," Reese said, according to People Magazine.

Despite her impressive performance on the court, which earned her a $73,439 salary in her rookie season, Reese admitted to "living beyond her means" with such high expenses. For context, if her rent alone costs $8,000 a month, that totals $96,000 a year—well above what her WNBA salary alone can cover. However, Reese is quick to point out that her extensive list of endorsement deals, including partnerships with brands like Hershey's Reese's Pieces, Reebok, Beats by Dre, and Good American, help fund her lavish lifestyle.

Additionally, Reese is set to earn a six-figure salary from Unrivaled, a new 3-on-3 women's basketball league launching in January, which will further boost her income.

Angel Reese on Criticism and Self-Confidence

With fame comes scrutiny, and Reese has already faced her share of criticism. However, she has a clear strategy for handling negative opinions. "Everybody's always going to have an opinion — if you're the greatest or the worst, I am who I am, and I accept who I am. People are going to either love it or hate it. I think that separates you from whoever else," she told People Magazine.

Reese has always been unapologetically herself, and she encourages others, especially young girls, to embrace their uniqueness. "I haven't had the perfect journey, I haven't had the perfect life, I want them to know that and understand that you can start anywhere and be where you want to be," she said.

This message of resilience and self-confidence is one of the reasons Reese has become such an influential figure in sports.

Shaquille O'Neal: A Father Figure in Reese's Life

As Reese's career continues to soar, she has found guidance and support from NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, whom she describes as a "father figure." O'Neal has been a key source of mentorship and advice for Reese, helping her navigate both the challenges of professional sports and the complexities of fame.

"He’s super inspiring to me, He’s so genuine, he’s been there for me through tough times. He just gets it, and there’s not a more perfect person for me to be tight with," Reese said of O'Neal.

In January, Reese invited O'Neal to her Senior Day celebrations at college, an event typically reserved for family members. She said, "If I need anything, he would help me … and he would do that even if I never played basketball again. He doesn’t care about me as a player. He cares about me as a person."
