India's all-rounder Shivam Dube delivered a remarkable performance in the first T20I against Afghanistan, guiding his team to a six-wicket victory at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, January 11. Dube's impressive play not only showcased his batting skills but also his proficiency as a bowler, contributing significantly to India's lead in their three-match series against Afghanistan.

Dube's performance was central to the victory in Mohali, as he scored an unbeaten 60 off 40 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes. His approach was clear and focused, aiming to play his natural game and maximize his impact. His efforts were recognised as he was named 'Player of the Match' for his all-around contributions.

"I was batting at 4 after a long time. There was a bit of pressure on me, but I was clear in my mind that I had to play my game. From my style, I feel a bit of pressure on the first 2 to 3 balls, but after that, I think about the ball and don't think too much. I know I can hit big sixes in T20s, so I know I can get runs anyway," Dube said after the game.

During his spell, Dube managed to maintain an economical rate, giving away just nine runs in his two overs, and notably taking the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran. Post-match, Dube revealed that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had praised his performance, acknowledging his valuable contribution to the team's success.

"Rohit Sharma said that I played really well and that we'll chat to improve my game in upcoming games. Today, I got the opportunity with the ball and executed what I had to," Dube added.

Afghanistan had set a target of 159 runs, bolstered by a stellar performance from their experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. However, the Indian team, led by Dube's skillful batting and supported by Jitesh Sharma's brisk 31 off 20 balls, chased down the target comfortably with 15 balls to spare and six wickets in hand.

This victory in Mohali gave India a 1-0 lead in the T20I series. The teams are now preparing for the second match, which is scheduled to take place at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 14. This series forms a crucial part of India's preparation for upcoming cricketing events, with players like Shivam Dube proving to be vital assets for the team.
