Team India are set to begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with the clash against UAE on September 10. Though the Men in Blue are favourites not only to win the match but also the entire tournament, former India cricketer Robin Uthappa feels that the side shouldn't make the mistake of being complacent ahead of any of their clashes.
Uthappa remarked that the quality in the current Indian team is so good that they can end up taking their foot off the pedal and can be overly confident of winning matches during the continental tournament.
"I think complacency is a danger, so I’d make sure they take every game respectfully. The quality of players is so good that sometimes you can take your foot off the pedal, thinking, ‘Listen, we’ll dominate, so you can relax.’ That is something they need to look out for," Uthappa told Sony Sports.
"They need to make sure the health of the team is really good. In this unit, there may be two or three more guys who are going to be the key contenders for the World Cup next year. So you want everyone getting along, keeping the dressing room atmosphere light, but at the same time, playing for each other," he added.
India's sensational form in T20Is
Meanwhile, India enter the Asia Cup in top form. The side haven't lost a single T20I series since the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the shortest format in July, 2024. The Men in Blue have emerged victorious in all of their previous four T20I assignments and are easily one of the most in-form sides in the world.
On the other hand, following their clash against the UAE, India will be facing-off against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 before concluding their group stage with the match against Oman on September 19. Notably, the Men in Blue are the most successful side in the history of the competition having won the trophy 8 times so far. They will definitely be aiming to win a record ninth Asia Cup title in the ongoing edition of the tournament.
