Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh was highly critical of Mohsin Naqvi for not handing t he Men in Blue with t he Asi a Cup trophy after they had defeated Pakistan in the final. India had refused to take the trophy from Naqvi in the post-match ceremony and are yet to receive it. Naqvi, who is the chairman of both the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board recently shared a social media post stating that if India want the trophy, they will have to collect it from the ACC office in Dubai.
Harbhajan stated that Naqvi isn't big enough to decide whether India deserve to receive the trophy or not. He further sai d that there is no reason to keep the trophy from Men in Blue as they will eventually end up getting their hands on it.
“A lot happened during the Asia Cup. About the handshake saga — before that, the bigger question was whether the matches should have happened at all,"Harbhajan said as quoted by News18.
“India won the tournament, and that is their biggest trophy. I don’t think Naqvi or anyone else is big enough to decide whether the trophy should be awarded or not. If not today, then tomorrow the trophy will be given, so what’s the point of keeping it aside? We have won it, and the trophy will come to us one day or another," he added.
Naqvi under fire for his actions
Meanwhile, during the ACC meeting held after the Asia Cup, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla questioned why Naqvi decided to keep the trophy with himself, but the PCB chief deflected the question and claimed that no one had informed him that India would not be accepting the trophy from him. He didn't apologise to BCCI for his behaviour and didn't congratulate India for their triumph.
BCCI to lodge a complaint against Naqvi to ICC?
Following the post-match drama in the Asia Cup final, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had stated that they will complain about Naqvi's absurd behaviour to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in their meeting that is scheduled to be held in November later this year.
