'I'm putting in all the hard work...': Suryakumar Yadav vows to fight his way back into India T20I squad

In a series of big events, India's former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has expressed his desire to make a strong comeback into the national side despite being dropped on the recent tours. The star batter was removed from the captaincy and left out of the side despite lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

While reflecting on his prospects of making an international comeback, the 35-year-old made it clear that he remains devoted to earning his way back into the Indian setup. Suryakumar stressed that he will continue working on his game and strengthening his case while patiently waiting for another opportunity at the highest level.

“Look, I'm putting in all the hard work and doing everything I can. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” said Surya during the Pro Govinda League.

How did Suryakumar Yadav lose his place in the Indian T20I team?

Suryakumar's absence from the Indian setup came after the lean patch with the bat, which also saw him struggle to make significant impact during the IPL. At the same time, the selectors have begun shaping the squad with the next two-year cycle in mind, which has further reduced the experienced batter's chances of featuring in India's scheme of things.

Suryakumar had been a key part of India's T20I plans for several years being handed the leadership role after Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format. His stint at helm saw India lift their third T20I World Cup trophy earlier this year.

Despite that success, the team management decided to move on in a different direction, replacing him with Shreyas Iyer as skipper before Suryakumar eventually lost his spot in the T20I squad as well.

Surya's form witnessed a steep decline compared to the standards he had set earlier in his career. Having previously occupied the top spot in the T20I batting rankings, the veteran batter found it tough to score runs at a consistent pace.
