India veteran spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who was unable to feature in the five-Test match series against England, is most likely to be added to India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025, considering the T20 World Cup 2026, which will take place in India. Kuldeep Yadav could be India's X factor in UAE pitches.  He has played 11 matches in Dubai, where he managed to pick 17 wickets at an average of 27.05.

There were speculations that BCCI would announce India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025 without a press conference, considering the weather conditions in Mumbai. But the BCCI officially announced that the senior Men’s Selection Committee will meet at the BCCI HQ, Mumbai, on Tuesday, August 19, to pick India’s squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup. The selection meeting will be followed by a press conference, which will be attended by the Captain and the Chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. The meeting will start at 1.30 PM IST.

India's young batter Abhishek Sharma and wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson have been locked in as the openers of the series, and left-handed pacer Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be added to India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025 as a backup opener for the mega event, as reported by Cricbuzz. Yashasvi Jaiswal's last T20I outing came against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2024. The southpaw played 23 T20Is and scored 723 runs, including one century and five half-centuries. However, Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 heroes Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill will miss the spot from the squad.

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav were supposed to attend a press conference followed by the Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office in Mumbai. Now there are chances that the Indian squad for the marquee event will be announced without the press conference due to heavy rain predictions in Mumbai. IMD issued a red alert in Mumbai, and the Mumbai Police have also issued an advisory for people, asking them to avoid non-essential travel amid heavy rain.

There was a dilemma over India's vice captain in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. There were reports that Axar Patel, who was appointed as Suryakumar Yadav's deputy, and Shubman Gill are in contention for becoming India's vice captain, but as new reports are coming that selectors are not considering Shubman Gill in the squad so it's clear that Axar Patel will be the vice captain.

Rajasthan Royals star Riyan Parag has been named the vice captain of the East Zone team in the Duleep Trophy, which hints that his Asia Cup spot is in danger. The mega event is scheduled to start from August 28, and the final will take place on September 11. On the other hand, the Asia Cup will start from September 9. 

However, these are just speculations and Sports Tak doesn't confirm anything about his availability for the mega event.

The last edition of the Asia Cup was played in ODI format in Sri Lanka in 2023 because of the ODI World Cup

The batter guided PBKS to the final, where they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Considering his performance in the shortest format of the game, Iyer becomes one of the potential candidates to feature for India in the Asia Cup. However,  as per reports, the selectors and team management are aligned on including an experienced middle-order batter suited to the slower, lower conditions expected in the UAE. If Iyer made a cut in India's squad, then Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh might lose their spot. Both batters represented India in the last T20I assignment against England.

India speedster Mohammed Siraj impressed everyone with his dedication and bowling in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England. He was the only pace bowler who played all five Tests of the series and ended his campaign as the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets in nine innings. However, the speedster was out of India's white ball scheme of things since the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series in 2024. So there are chances that he will miss his spot in the Asia Cup squad.
