Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar are some notable omissions from India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced Jitesh Sharma's name ahead of Sanju Samson while announcing the squad for the mega event. This sparked speculations that vice-captain Shubman Gill is a lock-in to open with Abhishek, with Samson being a backup opener. In which case, Jitesh plays as the first wicketkeeper.

However, Agarkar clarified that his committee's headache is only to pick the squad. The XI will be picked by the captain & coach. Agarkar also made another pertinent point that Samson played [over the past year or so on a regular basis] only because Gill wasn't available [due to Test commitments].

India Asia Cup 2025 Squad Announcement LIVE Update: Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that Shivam Dube will have to be dropped if India want to include Shreyas Iyer in the squad for T20 Asia Cup 2025. 

 "Shreyas at 3. Surya and Tilak can float. Surya and Tilak can change between 4 and 5. If you are bringing Shreyas Iyer on the scheme of things, then Shivam Dube doesn't have a place. He doesn't have a place. He can be a backup position. Which we can discuss. Because if Shreyas Iyer, Surya and Tilak, if they form your top 5, then it is 6 and 7. 6 and 7 is a block. India Asia Cup 2025 Squad Announcement LIVE: Kuldeep Yadav's childhood coach Kapil Pandey said that the left-arm chinaman bowler was sad not to get a chance on England tour. Pandey feels that Kuldeep and Varun Chakravarthy can be a dangerous combo for the opposition and outfox batters in the high-voltage clash against Pakistan.
