Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) policies and claimed that they are looking for players who don't have a 'strong personality'. This comes after the Men in Green recorded a 5-wicket defeat to India in the Asia Cup final. Akhtar further stated that skipper Salman Ali Agha is not inspiring at all and the decisions he made in the final weren't spot on.
“Humey ab shareef bacche chahiyen, jo aaath baje curfew lagake ghar pe baith jaye. Cricket board ko in jaise bechare, lallu-kattu chahiye. They don’t want strong personalities. This is the reflection of the PCB policies," Akhtar told ARY News.
“Where will the attitude come when the captain is not inspiring? The captain is a reflection of the board’s choices. Senseless and headless-chicken management. The team combinations were not right, the captaincy was not spot on and they were not willing to listen to us," he added.
Akhtar also went on to claim that there won't be a major change in Pakistan cricket unless the management changes and a new chairman takes the helm.
“From the first day after my retirement, I had decided I would never join PCB, as whoever has gone there has never come out with respect. I work in TV, take money and sit," Akhtar stated.
“Now there is Mohsin Naqvi, next time koi aur saab aa jayenge. Unless you bring in a visionary, educated man, history will remember if you start this," he further added.
How many times did India defeat Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025?
Meanwhile, Pakistan got defeated by India on three occasions in Asia Cup 2025. The Men in Blue handed losses to their arch-rivals once each in the group stage and Super 4 before defeating them in the final as well. With these three wins, Suryakumar & Co. once again asserted their dominance over the Men in Green and proved that they are the best cricket team in the Asian continent with the triumph in the final.
India's stellar Asia Cup campaign
India were in a class of their own throughout the tournament. They recorded seven victories on the trott and majority of their matches were nothing but one-sided affairs. They have now won the Asia Cup title for a record-extending ninth time and will now be shifting their focus to their next T20I assignment which will be a five-match series against Australia that will begin from October 29.
