India head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen asking the team to greet the umpires following the conclusion of the match against Pakistan. This came after captains from both the teams once again didn't shake hands with each other at the toss and no customary handshake took place after the game either. The video where Gambhir can be heard asking Suryakumar Yadav & Co. to shake hands with umpires made rounds on social media.
The 'handshake controversy' got reignited during the match between India and Pakistan as no player from either team shook hands with each other throughout the match. Also, there were multiple moments where tempers flared during the match with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill being involved in a heated argumentĀ with Haris Rauf. Gill also had a verbal exchange with Shaheen Afridi and all these moments showed how intense the rivalry between India and Pakistan is.
Coming to the match, Pakistan batted well and put on a fighting total of 171/5 on the board after 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan was the star performer for the Men in Green with his valiant knock of 58. Salman Ali Agha & Co. wrapped up their innings in strong fashion thanks to Faheem Ashraf's unbeaten cameo of 20 runs from 8 deliveries.
Stunning display from Indian batters
In reply, India had a fantastic start to the run-chase as the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill formed a huge partnership of 105 runs. They smacked the opposing bowlers all around the stadium and put them on the back-foot right from the start. Though Gill got dismissed for 47 in the 10th over, the damage was already done. Despite Suryakumar Yadav's duck and Abhishek's dismissal for 74 in the 13th over, the Men in Blue reached the 172-run target after 18.5 overs. Tilak Varma's unbeaten cameo of 30 played a key role in the side's second victory over their arch-rivals in the ongoing tournament.
