Sri Lanka announces squad for Asia Cup 2023, 4 injured players including Hasaranga ruled out

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced its squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The co-hosts of the tournament have been affected by injuries to their star players ahead of the tournament. 
 

Sri Lanka will be without the services of their swashbuckling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga due to an injury he sustained during Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. Earlier, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara were ruled out due to injuries.
 

Chameera is suffering from a pectoral injury. Madushanka got injured during a practice match last week whereas Kumara is still recovering from a side strain.
 

Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan have been the last-minute changes to the squad of defending champions. Also, Kusal Perera has returned to the ODI squad after a two-year absence. However, he is still recovering from the flu. As per SLC, Perera will join the rest of the squad once he recovers.
 

Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on August 21. Then they will travel to Pakistan, the co-hosts of the tournament. Their second group stage clash will be against Afghanistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on September 5.
