Highlights:

Harmanpreet Kaur was fined 75 per cent of her match fee in addition to the two-match suspension.

India will start their cricket event in the Asian Games against Malaysia in the Quarterfinal stage but the match has been halted because of rain at the ZJUT Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China, on Thursday, September 21. India were sent in to bat first by Malaysia as openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma giving India the perfect start.

However, Mandhana was dismissed after a mishit was caught by Ainna Hamizah Hashim off Mahirah Izzati Ismail's bowling. While many expected Harmanpreet Kaur to take the field, instead, Jemimah Rodrigues entered the pitch!

This is because Harmanpreet had received a two-match ban for dissent. Harmanpreet was slapped with a two-match suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the Code of Conduct on two accounts. She will not play until India reaches the final in Hangzhou Games.

She was fined 75 per cent of her match fee in addition to the two-match suspension. She showed dissent over the Bangladesh umpire’s decision followed by criticising him in the post-match presentation.

In her absence, Mandhana will be leading the side in the next two matches of the tournament. If India does make it to the final, then only will we get to see the talismanic batter in action for India.

All the matches played in Asian Games 2023 will have official T20I status. The women's competition will commence on September 19 and played till September 26. The bronze and gold medal matches will be played on September 26. In this case, if India loses in the semi-final, Harmanpreet will be available for the bronze medal match as well.
The men's team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad will also get a direct entry into the quarter-final. They will play their knockout matches on back-to-back days. The quarter-final will be played on October 5 followed by the semi-final on October 6 and the final on October 7. India are expected to begin their campaign against Afghanistan or Bangladesh.
